Sometimes, you would wish to have a panini press, a mandoline, an electric steamer, and oh! a roasting rack! But the question is, do you really need these kitchen tools or you just fancy seeing them on your kitchen table staring back at you? Because Candice Horbacz says if you don’t really need them, it’s not very practical to spend your money on these things.

Here are some things that I am sure you will finally agree with because these things are just extras in the kitchen. You won’t be able to use them every single day.

Panini Press

Candice Horbacz thinks it’s a cute thing to see panini sandwiches, all the grill lines – but it costs $40+ and it’s so expensive for all of the moms out there. Not everyone would like to spend $40+ on just a panini press that you cannot use any time of the day, only because you won’t be eating panini sandwiches for the rest of your life.

Instead of buying a panini press, Candice Horbacz says why don’t use your sauté pan? This won’t have grill lines but it can provide tasty sandwiches plus you can use this for your sautéed vegetables. That’s hitting two birds with one stone. And it would definitely not leave you broke.

Roasting Rack

It’s honestly perfect for Thanksgiving! It is best for cooking a turkey or a fowl but after this holiday, you will certainly put it box inside the box and push it back to the kitchen cabinet where it belongs. It’s not a day-to-day kitchen tool that you gonna use if you want to cook stew, or even if you want to have some hot meal like a soup – because it will surely not work the way you want it to be.

Instead, you can save more if you cook this fowl by creating a small ring of rolled foil that’s about 1/2 in thickness. Put it in an aluminum roaster pan then put the bird on top of it. Isn’t it easy? Yes! And you will save a lot you can still buy another fowl.

Pastry Bag

Are you a baker? Do you do intricate design and needs to do some embellishments on your cakes? If yes, then yes, you should have it. But if not, skip this bag – because this would only take up so much space if you don’t need it every day. Start using a zip-top plastic bag instead that you can put in the nearest trash bin after use. Choose those gallon-size freezer-safe bags than small sandwich bags because they break easily and you don’t like the filling dripping on your hands. Cut the corner off as desired then go, pipe away!


Candice Horbacz says that a wok is a kind of pan which is round-bottomed that originates from China. It is usually used for stir-frying, steaming, pan frying, deep frying, poaching, boiling, braising, searing, stewing, making soup, smoking and roasting nuts. It really has many uses, that is undeniable. However, the size of this pan is an unbelievable 14″ diameter that if you live in a flat or in a small space, the storage for this kitchen tool would be a big problem. Instead, you can opt with a large sauté pan. Avoid lightweight and non-stick pans because these pans will definitely not work the same.
